1st visit to Lior’s Cafe
Finally made it to Lior’s Café and this is one I had been waiting on. Me and my favorite eating partner, Dariayle, have talked about going for a while, but somehow never end up on the Southside long enough to make it happen.
First impressions? Cute atmosphere, good energy, and the smell alone told us we made the right decision.
Dariayle ordered the red snapper, I got the oxtails, and for the appetizer we shared the Shock N Shrimp. Let me just say… whoever is back there seasoning food is operating with purpose and intention. The oxtails were tender, rich, and falling apart exactly how they’re supposed to. The red snapper was seasoned beautifully, and that Shock N Shrimp disappeared so fast we almost acted like we never ordered it.
Now here’s the unexpected part of the evening. While waiting for the food, they had educational content playing on the screen and I learned my name has Haitian roots. Apparently Abdaraya Toya was one of the warriors of the Dahomey Amazons and was known as a healer and midwife. So not only did I leave full, I left feeling historically connected and slightly more powerful than when I walked in.
Good food, good company, and a random ancestral plot twist? Yeah… I would definitely go back.
